National Service Scheme (N.S.S.)

Introduction

The N.S.S. has been established by the central government to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi’s birth centenary in the year 1969. The scheme promotes Gandhian thought of rural development and self-dependence.

The N.S.S. department has been actively functioning right from the inception of the college in 1999. The N.S.S. intends to inculcate the qualities of self-dependence, social sensibility, honesty and dignity of labor.

The college runs all the programs and activities designed by the ministry of youth affairs and sports and the Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune. The college has the N.S.S. Unit of two hundred volunteers.

Nature of N.S.S.

Each enrolled N.S.S. Volunteer needs to contribute 120 clocks for the social work..

The N.S.S. implements programmes in two chief ways –

  • Regular Activities
  • Special camping activities

Objectives of N.S.S.

  • To know the society in which we live and work.
  • To make oneself competent to understand the society.
  • To know the needs problems of society and try to work out solutions for such problems.
  • To inculcate leadership quality to strengthen democracy of the nation.
  • To reduce the gap between literate and illiterate people.
  • To preach and develop national integrity.
  • To help the poor and weaker sections of our society.

  • Blood group checking and Blood donation camp.
  • Tree-Plantation.
  • Cleanliness activities
  • Kranti din Programme.
  • Rakshabandhan.
  • Environment Awareness Rallies.
  • Special guidance on various subjects.

Special Camping Activities

The college organizes a seven-day residential special camp for volunteers. During the last five years, the college organized camps in the following adopted villages – vitthalwadi, parodi, dahiwadi, warude, pimpaledhumal.

TThe N.S.S. Programme officers and the volunteers with help of villagers implemented activities like cleanliness, water conservation, tree–plantation, village social survey, soak-parts, health camps, cultural activities.

Following are activities and programmes by N.S.S. Department

The Guru pournima was celebrated and the function was presided over by Principal Dr. P. R. Patil., Dr. Avinash Jadhav delivered lecture on Health Issues and ayurvedicremidies.

The N.S.S and cultural departments jointly celebrated the occasion. The vice-president of Shikshan Prasarak Mandal Mr. Shrikant Satpute Presided over the function.

The regular activities of N.S.S. were inaugurated at the hands of university N.S.S. Coordinator Dr. Pandit Shelke, Mr. Maheshbapu Dhamdhere (Trustee, S.P. Mandal) Presided over the function.

The N.S.S. department organized a rally to celebrate the occasion. The occasion was celebrated at Hutatma Vishnu ganesh pingale memorial the martyrs were given tribute and shri pingale guruji, descendant of Hutatma pingale was the chief guest of the function shri. Maheshbapu Dhamdhere presided over the function.

The day was celebrated in presence of Dr. Sudhakar Bokefode (Deputy Registrar, Savitribai Phule Pune University) and University N.S.S Coordinator Dr. Sanjaykumar Dalwi the trees were planted in the campus to celebrate the occasion.

The blood donation camp was organized in the college and over forty students donated their blood.

3rd 2015 the programme was jointly organized by the department with Talegaon Dhamdhere Grampanchayat and pune zilla parishad.
