The vetran social reformers Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, Savitraibai Phule, Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, Sayajirao Gaikwad, Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil, Maharshi Dhondo Keshav Karve had the vision and mission of propogation and dissemination of education in Maharashtra and India.

The constant efforts of those social reformers facilitated the education to reach every nook and corner of the state. Sahebrao Shankarrao Dhamdhere alais Anna and late freedom fighter Raikumar Bhogilal Gujar alais Dadaji had taken this great cause of education forward in Talegaon Dhamdhere and villages in the vicinity. Keeping this view of education of the children of the poorest of the poor, in 1952 Shikshan Prasarak Mandal was established. ‘Tamaso Ma Jyotirgamaya’ which means ‘lead me from darkness to light’ is the motto of the Institute and the duo had considered this motto as their life mission.

The shirur district is considered to be the most draught affected area and also known for the scarcity of educational means. Shikshan Prasarak Mandal has played a vital role in this district by making available the basic means of education. Shikshan Prasarak Mandal has important place in the field of education and in the history of Pune District.

Besides, Late Sahebrao Shankarrao Dhamdhere alias Anna and great freedom fighter Raikumar Bhogilal Gujar alais Dadaji,their contemporaries like late Ramchandra Dashrath Shinde Late Hiralal Dullabhadas Shah, Late Deepchand Dayaram Runwal, Late kesharchand Gulabchand Gundecha Late Dynanoba sahadaba satpute, Late Mangalbhai Bagwan, Late Sitaram Maruti Pingale , Late S.M. Kulkarni, Late Vasudev Kale, Late Shankarrao Bajaba Narke, Late Ganpatrao Genuji Dhamdhere ( Barke Patil) Late Mahadba Savleram Bhujbal (Karbhari) contributed a great deal for the establishment & development of the institute.

The Shikshan Prasark Mandal had gone through many hardships in its early formation years. Colonel Sadashivrao Phadnis had made available his won land in (wada)for the school at very low price. The enrolement of the students soon increased considerably. As the school was small and could not accommodate all the students, the institute made a demand to the Government of Maharashtra for the sizable land for the establishment of big school. Due to constant efforts by them Chief Minister Barister, A.R. Antule had responded positively. Taking into consideration the contribution of S.P. Mandal in the educational field, he alloted 9 acres of land for the establishment of educational Institutions. The Head Masters L.D. Sonawane had also contributed a lot in making the land available to the S.P.Mandal.

The institute could constructed a new highly equipped 22 classroom building due to the sincere efforts of Late Raikumar Bhogilal Gujar (Chairman) , Late Sahebrao Shankarrao Dhamdhere (Secretary.) Late Dattartray Tatyaba Dhamdhere, Late Sampatrao Bhagwantrao Dhamdhere, Late Sampatrao Bhagwatrao Dhamdhere, late Ramchandra Dashrath Shinde, late Jaykumar Punmchand Runwal , Shri Babanrao Dinkarrao Hirve, Shri Arvind Sahebrao Dhamdhere , Shri Koustubhsheth Kantilala Gujar, Shri Vitthal Vishwanth Jedhe, Shri Shrikant Dnyanoba Satpute. Shri Bipinkumar Hiralal Shaha , Shri Vijay Sahebrao Dhamdhere , Mrs. Sunandatai Sharadrao Dhamdhere, Shri Mahesh Arvind Dhamdhere.

The highly equipped 22 classroom was inaugurated by the Defense Minister Shri Shard Chandraji Pawar in 1991. Taking into consideration the difficulties of the students of Talegaon Dhamdhere and near by villages in getting higher education Shikshan Prasarak Mandal started the college having art and commerce streams with BCA degree course Chief Minister Manohar Joshi , Hon’ble Harshwardhan Patil, Hon’ble Praksh G. Devale. Hon’ble Dilip Walse Patil, Hon’ble Rajesh Tope had helped S.P.Mandal in getting permission of the government for the college.Hon’ble Prof. M.S.Jadhav , Hon’ble Adocate Shrikantbhau Shirole had contributed a lot and had significant role in the development of the college. Late Sahebrao shankarrao Dhamdhere served the society by making the opportunity of education available to the children of the poorest of the poor til the last breath of his life.To play homage to him the S.P.Mandal’s college was named after him as Sahebrao Shankarrao Dhamdhere Arts and Commerce College.

The success graph of the College has been increasing as the college is learners- centric and committed to excellent results.
