Raikumar Bhogilal Gujar was born in 1922 in Talegaon Dhamdhere. He participated the Quit India movement in 1942 under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi. He also participated in the anti British rally giving slogans ‘Quit India and Vande Mataram’ at Budhwar Peth. He conducted the anti-British activities in the areas like Budhwar Peth, Maruti Chaulk, and Talegaon Dhamdhere. He organized rally in Sonya Marutichowk with Shri. Popatlal Shah. Police arrested him and imprisioned him for ten days in Yerawada jail. After his escape from the British, he remained underground and distributed bulletin. He inspired the people of the Talegaon Dhamdhere and Shirur area to participate in the freedom movement. He was bestowed with a Freedom Fighter award by Maharashtra government taking into consideration his contribution in freedom struggle. He continued his social work even after nation got freedom. He was elected as the first president(sabhapati) of the Shirur Panchayat committee in 1962. He was given the candidature of Shirur assembly (vidhan sabha) in 1957 and 1972 by All India National Congress by taking into consideration his social and educational work.
In 1952, he established Shikshan Prasarak Mandal (Talegaon Dhamdhere,Tal-Shirur, Dist- Pune) an educational institution for the education of the children of poorest of the poor in Talegaon Dhamdhere and its vicinity with the help of Late Sahebrao Shankarrao Dhamdhere, Late Ramchandra Dashrath Shinde, Late Hiralal Dullabhdas shah. He made educational awareness in Talegaon Dhamdhere and the vicinity through this educational institution. The students of Raikumar B. Gujar Prashala and the students of Sahebrao Shankarrao Dhamdhere Arts and Commerece College are working successfully in the government and social sector on prime positions. Raikumar Bhogilal Gujar passed away on 6th February 2011 leaving his mark in the field of education. The school run by Shikshan Prasarak Mandal (Talegaon Dhamdhere Tal- Shirur, Dist- Pune) was named after him as Swatantrya Sainik Raikumar B. Gujar Prashala by taking into consideration his outstanding work.
Born in 1920, at Talegaon Dhamdhere Sahebrao Shankarrao Dhadhere (Anna) took the education up to 8th standard. He was known to be a good wrestler in Talegaon Dhamdhere. He had actively participated in Quit India Movement in 1942 initiated by Mahatma Gandhi. With the intention of avoiding the arrest by the British government he continued his patriotic activities by remaining underground for a month. He had sabotaged rail tracks at Ghorpadi in Pune during the anti- British movement. He continued to serve society after India got freedom. He worked for Indian National Congress Party in Pune. He worked as the president of Taluka Congress Party from 1952 to 1957. He gave new direction to the development of Talegaon Dhamdhere while being the Vice – Sarpanch of it. He had been the Chairman of famous local Fair of God Hanuman.
Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, Savitribai Phule, Rajeshri Shahu Maharaj, Maharshi Dhondo Keshav Karve, Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil had taken unfatiguable efforts for educating the masses. Hon. Sahebrao Shankarrao Dhamdhere continued this legacy of their educational work at Talegaon Dhamdhere. Shaikshan Prasarak Mandal was established in 1952 with the help of the supporters – Late Raikumar Bhogilal Gujar, Late Ramchandra Dashrath Shinde, Late Hiralal Dullabhdas Shah with the intention of educating the children of the poor. He created a great educational awakening while being the Hon. Secretary of this institute.
The alumni of Shaikshan Prasarak Mandal’s Swa. Sai. Raikumar Bhogilal Gujar Prashala and Sahebrao Shankarrao Dhamdhere arts and commerce college presently hold important and high posts and positions in different fields. Hon. Sahebrao Shankarrao Dhamdhere passed away on September 14, 2001 leaving indelible mark of his work on social life. Considering substantial contribution to the educational development of Talegaon Dhamdhere, Shikshan Prasarak Mandal (TalegaonDhamdhere, Tal-Shirur, Dist-Pune) named the college after him as Sahebrao Shankarrao Dhamdhere Arts and Commerce College.
